Donald J. Conti

SMYRNA - Donald J. Conti passed away peacefully Aug. 6, 2013 at the Delaware Hospice Center, Milford. He was born Aug. 30, 1932 in New Castle, Pa., son of Laurence Conti and Ann Jasen Conti. Don was a railroader who began his career with the Pennsylvania Railroad, Pa. Central, and Conrail and ended it as the Superintendent of Transportation with Amtrak. After retiring he became Chairman of the Board of New Castle Area Transit authority of New Castle, Pa. Don was an active member of the Masons. After moving to Smyrna, Del, he became a member of Harmony Lodge, #13 A.F.& A.M. and Tall Cedars of Lebanon, Brandywine Forest No. 20, and Ancient Accepted Scottish Rite. Don also belonged to the American Legion, the Italian American War Veterans, and the Slovak Club. Don was preceded in death by his father, Laurence Conti; mother, Ann Jasen Conti Felici; step father, Ernest Felici; and brother, Larry Conti. He is survived by his devoted wife of 59 years, Angela Jean; his daughters, Charlene Bell, Lauren and husband Michael Rose, Donna Jean Rose, Bernice and husband Patrick Davis; and son, Ralph and wife Lisa Conti; 16 grandchildren; and one great-grandchild. A viewing will be held at Matthews-Bryson Funeral Home, 123 W. Commerce Street, Smyrna on Saturday, Aug. 10, 2013, from 2 to 3 p.m., with funeral services at 3 p.m. A Masonic service will be held at 2:45 p.m. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to Hospice of Delaware, 911 S.
