Daytona, Fla. - Don DeWitt, age 84, of Daytona Beach, Fla. passed away on Monday, March 21, 2016. He was born into a military family in Buffalo, N.Y. that moved often and eventually settled in Dover, Del. Don proudly served his country as a soldier in the U.S. Army. He was deployed to Korea for eleven months and fought in the famous "Battle of Heartbreak Ridge." Don met his wife, Lorraine, in Delaware, where they lived and raised their family until his retirement from Canteen Corporation after 39 years. In January 2016, Don and Lorraine celebrated their 57th wedding anniversary. Don was a longtime active member of the VFW #3282 in Daytona Beach, Fla. and the Moose Lodge in Harrington, Del. He was also an avid pool player, playing for several years in Delaware for Brown's Tavern's pool team. Don is survived by his wife and their five sons, Steve (Melody) of Titusville, Fla., Alvin (Cindy) of Felton, Del., David (Diane) of Towson, Md., Glenn (Cena) of Camden, Del., and Donald of Towson, Md.; seven grandchildren, and four great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, Sellew "Pappy" and Ruth DeWitt; and his brothers, S.R. "Speedy" DeWitt and Kenny DeWitt, all of Florida. Service will be 12 p.m., Wednesday, March 30, 2016 at the Pippin Funeral Home, 119 W. Camden-Wyoming Ave., Wyoming, where friends may gather one hour before service. Burial will follow in the Delaware Veterans Memorial Cemetery, Millsboro, Del. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations in his honor to either the VFW #3282, 5810 S.
