BRIDGEVILLE — A 21-year-old Bridgeville man was arrested after an alleged domestic incident led to his brother being struck by a vehicle, Delaware State Police said.

Authorities said the alleged incident occurred at approximately 5:08 p.m. when troopers were dispatched to the 20700 block of Booker T. Washington Street for an assault complaint. Upon arrival it was discovered that during the course of a domestic incident an 18-year-old male had been stuck with a vehicle in which his older brother Jaquan A. James was driving, police said.

Further investigation revealed that Mr. James was at his mother’s residence, fixing her vehicle, when his younger brother came home, wanting access to a shed that had been locked, police said. An argument ensued between 18-year-old son and mother, in which the mother went inside to retrieve a bat and a machete as it was believed that her son was in possession of a gun, police said. The 18-year-old son began to walk away from his mother and the residence when Mr. James proceeded to back out of the driveway in his vehicle, subsequently striking his brother, police said.

The 18-year-old was transported by the Delaware State Police Aviation Unit to the Christiana Hospital in critical condition.

Mr. James was transported back to Troop 5, where he was charged with first-degree assault (felony) and possession of a deadly weapon during the commission of a felony. He was arraigned before Justice of the Peace Court 2 in Reboth Beach and released on $40,000 unsecured bond.
