DOVER — A 35-year-old Smyrna man provided the location of his missing wife’s body as part of a guilty plea deal to murder last week, officials confirmed Wednesday.

After Cortez A. Hamilton gave information Friday in the supposed whereabouts of his wife’s body, Delaware State Police located human skeletal remains at Mount Friendship Road north of Brenford Road.

Delaware Department of Justice spokeswoman Nicole Magnusson said Wednesday “[t]esting by the Division of Forensic Science is ongoing to positively identify the remains.”

Hamilton, originally indicted on a first-degree murder charge, admitted to second-degree murder in the death of his wife.

Keisha Hamilton has not been seen since Jan. 9, 2015 and is presumed dead by her family and police.

On Tuesday, Hamilton’s defense attorney John R. Garey declined comment until after sentencing on March 28.

The lesser charges included second-degree count murder count will bring 15 years to life in prison when the defendant is sentenced by Superior Court Resident Judge William L. Witham Jr.

After Mrs. Hamilton’s concerned family members contacted police, Cortez Hamilton stopped in a vehicle in Indiana with his unharmed two children age four years and four months old the day after an Amber Alert was issued. Following extradition to Delaware on Jan. 22, 2015, Hamilton was indicted on April 6, 2015.

Indiana State Police allegedly found a bloody hammer and bloody clothing belonging to Mrs. Hamilton during a vehicle search warrant execution, investigators said. Also allegedly located were clothing and shoes from Mr. Hamilton partially covered in mud and stained blood, according to a court opinion allowing the items to be entered as evidence.

Police said Mrs. Hamilton’s wedding ring, a lock of her hair, her purse and a cell phone were also found, according to police investigation.

Other indicted charges not further prosecuted included possession of a deadly weapon during the commission of a felony and two counts of endangering the welfare of a child.

A court docket indicated Hamilton is being held at James T. Vaughn Correctional Center near Smyrna.
