Dewey Beach’s Capt. Peeps to fly in rubber-chicken drop

Posted

EASTON, Md. — The 12th annual Easton Airport Day will again feature a rubber-chicken drop contest, with Capt. Peeps serving as its official mascot.

Capt. Peeps — also known as Zeke Przygocki of Dewey Beach — serves as a captain for United Airlines.

The event begins at 10 a.m. Sept. 25 at the airport, 29137 Newnam Road.

Bluepoint Hospitality is the presenting sponsor of the contest. The event as a whole is sponsored by Scott and Tracy Wagner.

Easton Airport Day also will feature rare and unique aircraft, military jets and airport equipment. More than 50 warbirds will start their engines at noon and take off to fly in a mass formation.

As the aircraft participating in the formation return around 1, they will break off to take part in the chicken drop contest.

Planes will fly down a runway and toss out a rubber chicken in an attempt to hit their target — the back of a pickup truck.

The closest chicken to the target wins. Some pilots even design their own “chicken launchers” in an attempt to gain an advantage, but no pilot has ever been able to hit the bull’s-eye.

The event is free, and there is no fee for parking. Food vendors will be on-site.
