SMYRNA — John Rohrer, a 78-year-old inmate from James T. Vaughn Correctional Center, died on Saturday, of a non-COVID-19 illness, according to an announcement Monday by the Delaware Department of Correction.
Rohrer had been receiving medical treatment for multiple chronic medical conditions and had recently been placed on hospice care while housed in the prison infirmary, the department said. He was pronounced dead by medical staff at 11:42 p.m. Saturday and his body was released to the Delaware Division of Forensic Science to determine cause of death.
Rohrer, of Claymont, had been in the department’s custody since 2006 and was serving a 19-year sentence for unlawful sexual penetration and compiling child pornography.
