DELMAR — A 33-year-old Delmar man was arrested on weapons charges following a vehicle pursuit Monday.
Delaware State Police said that at approximately 8:55 p.m., a trooper on patrol in the area of Susan Beach Road and White Deer Road saw William Timmons driving a Chevrolet Monte Carlo. The trooper knew that Timmons was wanted for an earlier Troop 4 investigation, and a computer inquiry revealed he had an active capias, police said.
The trooper observed the Chevrolet fail to maintain its lane and initiated a traffic stop, authorities said. Police said the car fled at a high rate of speed and after a brief vehicle pursuit, the Chevrolet stopped in the driveway of a residence on the 6000 block of White Deer Road.
Police said Timmons resisted arrest and was then taken into custody. A vehicle search located drug paraphernalia and a bayonet on the rear seat, police said.
Timmons is a convicted felon and prohibited from possessing a deadly weapon, police said.
He was charged with possession offenses, including firearm during the commission of a felony, deadly weapon by a person prohibited and drug paraphernalia, disregarding a police officer signal, resisting arrest and traffic violations. He was arraigned by Justice of the Peace Court 3 and committed to Sussex Correctional Institution on $26,710 cash bond.
