Delmar field hockey team tops Dover 9-0 for unbeaten regular season

The top high school field hockey team in the state descended on the University of Delaware Saturday afternoon and continued what it has been doing all season.

Delmar High clinched an undefeated regular season with a 9-0 victory over Dover High at the annual Turf Bowl field hockey event held at Rullo Stadium on the campus of the University of Delaware.

The Wildcats will hope to be back on this field in a couple of weeks, celebrating another state championship.

Both the semifinals and finals of the state tournament are hosted at Rullo Stadium. The semifinals are scheduled for Tuesday, Nov. 14 and Wednesday, Nov. 15 with the championship games on Saturday, Nov. 18. This is the first year the tournament has been split into Division I and Division II.

Delmar got off to a quick start against Dover, scoring five goals in the first half. Four were by Logan Walls who ended the contest with five goals.

Ashlyn Carr netted a hat trick in the second half while Peyton Kemp and Hailey Bitters recorded a pair of assists each. Jordan Moore scored the other goal for Delmar and Carr also finished with two assists.

Delmar finished the year at 15-0 and have score nine or more goals in the last six games. The Wildcats lowest scoring output of the year was four goals in the opener against South River, Md. Its lowest total against a Delaware opponents is six against Smyrna and Cape Henlopen.

The Wildcats have outscored opposing teams 133-6 in their 15 games. They have won their last 22 games dating back to last season, including four victories in the state tournament last year on their way to the school’s first field hockey state championship.

Dover has three regular season games left and fell to 6-4-2 overall.

Caesar Rodney High was the only other Henlopen Conference team competing in the Turf Bowl on Saturday. The Riders played the first game of the day and dropped a 5-0 decision to Caravel Academy.

Caravel held a 20-3 edge in shots in the contest.

Other Turf Bowl results included Appoquinimink edging Conrad 2-1, a 2-2 draw between Concord and Mount Pleasant, Glasgow shutting out Christiana 3-0 and Newark with a 1-0 victory over A.I. du Pont.
