WILMINGTON — The Delaware Racial Justice Collaborative has announced that its first statewide Black Student Union Summit will take place at the Chase Fieldhouse on Saturday from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m.
The student-led summit aims to create networking opportunities for those who are in or wish to organize a Black student union in their high school or college.
Skye Jackson, one of three students who launched the “Black At” Instagram movement and a founder of the National Black Student Alliance, will be the keynote speaker. She will share tips for launching or maintaining a Black student union and ideas for working with advisers and administrators.
In addition to the keynote presentation, the summit will feature sessions regarding activism and voting, as well as a discussion about finding your passion in social justice. Separate workshops for teachers, advisers and school administrators will offer advice on recruiting and engaging for student unions, advocating for pupils and building communities within schools.
The three Delaware high schools with the most attendance will earn $500. Free transportation from sites in Georgetown, Milford and Middletown also will be available.
