Delaware State Police Trooper Youth Week coming in June

Posted

DOVER — The Delaware State Police and the American Legion are sponsoring the 50th annual Trooper Youth Week on June 19-23.

Trooper Youth Week is a live-in program designed to give high school students who are interested in law enforcement an opportunity to experience the rigors of training that police recruits receive at the Delaware State Police Academy in Dover. The program is both mentally and physically challenging.

The students will be selected from a competitive pool and are required to participate in daily physical training, as well as a variety of law enforcement-related classroom instruction. Exercises include outdoor running, pushups and sit-ups, among others.

The program is facilitated by uniformed troopers assigned to the academy and school resource officers from across the state.

High school seniors, juniors and sophomores are encouraged to apply. Applications can be downloaded from dsp.delaware.gov/trooper-youth-week or obtained from a school resource officer. There is no cost to students.

The deadline to apply is 4 p.m. May 19.

Any questions can be directed to dsptyw@delaware.gov or 302-672-5457.
