DEWEY BEACH — Delaware Seashore State Park’s superintendent Doug Long was recently honored for his years of support and leadership by the Delaware Seashore Preservation Foundation’s board of directors.

Retiring in January 2023, Mr. Long was Delaware State Parks’ liaison to the foundation. He started with the state parks in 1993, as a park ranger. He is an outdoor recreation professional, dedicated to social and environmental justice. Team building and inclusion for all in the workplace was his career mission, in addition to being an avid surfer.

In 1998, he transitioned into being the manager of the Indian River North Shore Marina. In 2003, he became superintendent of the 2,000-acre Delaware Seashore State Park.

Mr. Long was instrumental in assisting the Delaware Seashore Preservation Foundation with the recent restoration of the Fort Miles Fire Control Tower No. 3, south of Dewey Beach, scheduled to open in spring 2023.
