DOVER—Gov.-elect Matt Meyer has announced three key staff members who will serve in leadership roles under his administration.
On Wednesday, Vanessa Phillips was named chief of staff, Wilson Davis as chief legal counsel, and Evelyn Brady will lead as transition director.
“We are a team that will get things done,” Mr. Meyer said. “We will build a state government that listens to residents, acts with integrity and gets results. … With Vanessa, Wil and Evelyn on board, we will deliver for Delawareans with efficiency on Day One.”
Currently, Ms. Phillips serves as the chief administrative officer of New Castle County under Mr. Meyer’s leadership. She previously served as a prosecutor in Washington before joining the Meyer administration in 2017.
Prior to her time in New Castle County, Ms. Phillips was deputy secretary of the Delaware Department of Labor. She has also held leadership roles at the Delaware Department of Transportation, including director of Human Resources.
Mr. Davis received his bachelor’s degree from the University of Delaware and a law degree from Temple University. After law school, he clerked for the Honorable Richard R. Cooch in Delaware Superior Court, before serving as an assistant county attorney with the New Castle County Office of Law and as a deputy attorney general with the state Department of Justice.
Further, he was appointed county attorney for New Castle County in 2019 under the Meyer administration and has served in the role since.
Mr. Meyer’s transition from executive of Delaware’s largest county to the governor’s office will be led by Ms. Brady, a former public-school teacher who has previously worked with Network Delaware and the Delaware Voting Rights Coalition.
Currently, she serves on the Delaware Democratic Party’s 12th Representative District Committee, and on numerous boards of directors in the state, including for Action for Delaware’s Children and Planned Parenthood of Delaware.
Mr. Meyer and his lieutenant governor, state Sen. Kyle Evans Gay, will be sworn into their new posts on Jan. 21, 2025.
