MILFORD — Coming off a four-touchdown game a week ago, Delaware Military Academy junior running back Corahn Alleyne picked up where he left off Friday night against the Milford Buccaneers.

In the Seahawks’ thrilling 24-23 victory over the Bucs, Alleyne scored all three touchdowns. Kicker Matthew Drejza capped the victory with a game-winning 25-yard field as time expired.

The kick came just minutes after Milford’s placekicker Jonathan Gaglione drilled what had appeared to be a game-winning field goal with 29 seconds left on the clock.

“After that kick (Gaglione’s field goal) kids want to put their heads down. Which a teenage kid is going to do,” DMA head coach Michael Ryan said. “I just gathered them all together and told them ‘we have time, it’s never over.’ They composed themselves, never gave up, and they were very smart out there on that final drive. I’m real proud of them.”

The final drive included a crucial 15-yard penalty, setting DMA’s kicker up for the short field goal with three seconds remaining on the game clock.

“I think any game in Division II win is huge,” Ryan said. “It’s just points that you’re trying to build to get to the next level. I think to win this game – against a tough team and in a very difficult place to play – just gives us bounds of confidence.”

Alleyne didn’t waste any time getting the scoring started out of the gate, running the opening kickoff back for a touchdown to set the Seahawks up with a 7-0 lead just 19 seconds into the game.

Milford came out and put the ball in the end zone on its second offensive possession of the game as senior running back David Bowman trotted into the end zone from 12 yards out. A blocked extra point made it a 7-6 ball game.

On the ensuing kickoff, Alleyne once again snagged the ball on a bounce and ran it all the way back for his second kickoff return touchdown in as many tries.

“Alleyne is, obviously, a very tremendous player,” Ryan said. “People know about him for sure. I think last week he busted out a lot and this game puts him on the map, for sure. He makes plays. That’s just what he does.”

Without even touching the ball offensively, DMA held an early 14-6 lead over the Bucs.

But Alleyne wasn’t done the first-half scoring.

On Milford’s third offensive series, the two-way starter stepped in front of a Bucs pass and returned it to the house for his third special teams/defensive touchdown of the night. The successful extra point provided DMA with a 21-6 lead.

Down 15 points in the second quarter, Milford head coach Shaun Strickland knew his Bucs weren’t going to back down.

“I told them we still have one of the best defenses in the state and all we had to do was keep driving the ball and things will break our way,” Strickland said he told his players.

The 1-1 Bucs would go on to string together 14 unanswered points, including two more Bowman rushing touchdowns, to bring them to within one point with 5:01 remaining on the clock.

Milford’s defense stepped up to force a DMA punt with 3:19 remaining on the game clock, giving the offense time to drive down the field.

It took just six plays for the Bucs to get into field position for Jonathan Gaglione’s 22-yard attempt with 29 seconds remaining.

“There’s nothing to be ashamed of. We played great, our kids played hard. We never quit,” coach Strickland said of his team’s one-point loss. “We’re a young team, and we have some new guys in some new spots, and for us to fight and play a well-disciplined machine like DMA is awesome.”

The DMA victory avenged their 24-0 shutout loss against Milford in Week 2 of last season.
