OCEAN VIEW, Del. - David Roy Greenly passed away on Tuesday, July 15, 2014, at Bebee Hospital surrounded by his loving family. David was born in Wilmington on Dec. 1, 1948. He was a graduate of Harrington High School where he received an NROTC scholarship to the University of Virginia, graduating with a degree in Finance. He started his own construction company in Virginia and then moved it to Harrington. His deep love for the ocean caused him to change his career. He started with a charter boat business in Ocean City, Md. After a few years, he obtained his captain's license and purchased a commercial fishing boat operating from Ocean City, Md. to the Grand Banks. He then got his port engineer's license to become a port engineer in the maritime industry. David is the son of the late Fred B. Greenly, Jr. and Bettye P. Greenly of Harrington. He is survived by his wife, Susan D. Mooney Greenly of Ocean View; his daughter, Laura Greenly of Harrington; grandson, Adam Sobiech; brother, Fred B. Greenly III of Westville, Fla.; and his brother, Allen Greenly of Cumming, Ga. A memorial service will be held at 10 a.m. on Friday, July 18, 2014 at the Melson Funeral Home, 38040 Muddy Neck Rd., Ocean View, DE.; a photo montage will be shown with the memorial service beginning at 11:00 a.m. Flowers may be sent to the Funeral Home, and donations may be made to the Millville Volunteer Fire Department or the Delaware State Humane Society.
