MacFarland, Sr, 85 RIDGELY - David M. MacFarland, Sr, died on Oct. 3, 2012 in the Caroline Nursing Home in Denton, where he was known as Smiley to all residents and staff. He was born in Philadelphia, Pa. on March 14, 1927 to the late John G. and Mary Morrow MacFarland. A lifetime resident of the area, David had been employed with DuPont of Seaford as a machine operator retiring in 1985 after over 38 years. He was a member of the Ridgely Church of the Brethren. He had a love for working on automobiles and enjoyed fishing, bird watching and being outdoors. In addition to his parents he is preceded in death by his wife Rita M. MacFarland; a son, John G. Sr; and a brother, James. He is survived by four sons, David and wife Susan of Harrington, Del.; Robert and wife Martha of Laurel, Md.; Brent and wife Kim of Ridgely, Md.; Danny and wife Colleen of Greensboro, Md.; two daughters, Ginny Tribbitt and husband Larry of Goldsboro, Md.; and Carol Knott and husband Danny of Ridgely, Md.; 23 grandchildren; 23 great-grandchildren; and two great- great-grandchildren; and his faithful dog, Sherrie. A visitation will be on Friday, Oct. 5, 2012 from 7 to 9 p.m. in the Fleegle and Helfenbein Funeral Home, Greensboro, where the funeral service will be held on Saturday Oct. 6, 2012 at 2 p.m. Interment will follow the service in the Greensboro Cemetery.
