DOVER - David Holden Pratt died on Saturday, Sept. 29, 2012, at Kent General Hospital, following a long illness. He was born on May 30, 1951, in Rutland, Vt. to the late Richard H. and Anna (Benson) Pratt. He grew up in Clarendon, attended St. Peter's School in Rutland, and graduated from Mt. St. Joseph Academy. He enlisted in the US Air Force in 1969 where he was trained as an air freight specialist. He won top honors in the Military Airlift Command combat airlift competition and later served in Vietnam on two tours. Always home based in Dover, during his 20 year career he was deployed to many far off places such as Turkey, Thailand and Egypt, and participated in relief missions to such places as Managua, Nicaragua after an earthquake. After he retired from the Air Force in 1989 he remained in Delaware. He raised quail and pheasants to sell to game farms and more recently he worked as a grounds keeper for a golf course. He was an avid hunter, shooter and outdoorsman, took full advantage of Delaware's longer deer season and often enjoyed taking trips in his camper. An active member of the Dover American Legion, he was affectionately known as "Camo Dave" since his wardrobe and household décor, including the shower curtains, was camouflage. We will always remember him for "Dave's world famous strawberry jam." He is survived by his brothers and their spouses, Richard and Diana Pratt of Clarendon, Vt., John and Helen Pratt of Va., his sisters, Mrs. Kathy (John) Scott of Burlington, Vt., Mary Pratt of Mass. and Eleanor Hart of Milton, Vt.; his aunts Alice Pratt Myers of Rutland, Vt. and Barbara Atwood Pratt of Clarendon, Vt.; and several nieces, nephews and cousins. He was very fortunate to have such good friends in the American Legion, especially Richie and Bill, and neighbors, Chet and Sally. A celebration of his life will be planned for later in the month at the American Legion in Dover. Letters of condolence may be sent and the guestbook signed at www.torbertfuneral.com.
