WESTBROOK, Maine - David E. Peterson, of Westbrook, formerly of Harrington, Del., passed away unexpectedly Sunday while riding his snowmobile. He was 70.

He was born in Portland, Ore., the son of Richard C. and Marjorie J. Roach Peterson.

Dave graduated from high school in Harrington.

He was currently working for the city of Portland, where he had worked for many years.

Dave was a member and former trail master of the Falmouth Snow Voyageurs, a life member and past president of Harrington Fire Co., life member of the N.R.A., a member of the American Rifle Association and the Charlais Association.

He enjoyed motorcycle riding, boating, snowmobiling, and fixing anything around the house.

Dave was preceded in death by his stepmother, Sylvette Peterson; and a stepson, Darrell Benton.

He is survived by his father, Richard of Cumberland; his beloved, Harriet Benton; two sons, Walter Benton of Lincoln, Del., and Harry R. Benton of Harrington; two daughters, Helena M. Keene of Milford, Del., and Mary L. Hughes of Delmar, Md.; two brothers, Thomas J. Peterson of Cumberland and Roger Peterson of Santa Rosa, Calif.; nine grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; three uncles, Warren, Leonard, and Donald; two aunts, Minnie Erb of Whittier, Calif., and Ruth Hodgdon of Porter; nieces, nephews; and three great-nieces who he loved very much.

There will be a memorial service in his honor this spring. No dates are set as of yet.

Instead of flowers, donations can be made to the Special Olympics; or to a charity of your choice.
