CLERMONT, Fla. - David C. Powell of Clermont passed away Monday, Feb. 25, 2008, at Leesburg Regional Medical Center. He was 48.

A memorial service will be 2 p.m. Saturday at the Kingdom Hall of Jehovah's Witnesses, Alternate U.S. 13, Laurel, Del.

David was born Aug. 20, 1959, in Baltimore, to the late Thelma Johnson and Wilbur Powell.

He is survived by his wife, Sheila Simms Powell of Clermont, Fla.; a son, Brandon Powell of Clermont; a daughter, Briana Powell of Clermont; two sisters, Deborah Wright and Denise Williams and husband Frank; a brother, Kenneth Powell and wife Mae; and five nephews, a niece, four great-nieces and a great-nephew, all of Baltimore.

A sister, Gayle Powell, preceded him in death.

David was well known to many because of his stands as one of Jehovah's Witnesses, and employment with Mears Transportation as a motor coach operator and Hunter Real Estate Services as a realtor in Orlando.

In addition, many recall his athletic achievements at Morgan State University and Southern High School in Baltimore.
