Caesar Rodney High’s boys’ tennis team advanced all five of its entries through to today’s semifinals of the DIAA state tournament.
In the girls’ bracket, the Riders have three entries still alive while Smyrna High freshman Ava Emrich moved two wins closer to the first singles state championship.
After playing only one round on Saturday, two rounds were played on Monday. Both tourneys are slated to resume today at 2:30 p.m. at various sites.
CR’s Darin Jawahar, seeded third at first singles, won his two matches on Monday in straight sets. He’s slated to face No. 2 Connor Jauffret of Wilmington Charter in the semifinals.
Also advancing for the Riders were Ramon Manjon (second singles), Caleb Anthony (third singles), Troy Boehne-Marc Clemente (first doubles) and Jason Moyer-Avery Bonner (second doubles). Wilmington Charter and Tower Hill also advanced all five of their entries.
Smyrna’s Emrich is the only Henlopen Conference player still alive in the girls’ first singles draw. Seeded third, she didn’t lose a game in her two matches on Monday.
Emrich will face the No. 2 seed, St. Andrews Allaire Berl, in the semifinals.
CR’s remaining players are Evie Snyder (second singles), Ava Vu (third singles) and Allyson Lebendig-Yatra Patel (second doubles).
Defending state champion Dover still has Shing Rue Lin (third singles) and Janelle Gyambibi-Malini Lodhavia (first doubles) playing in the girls’ bracket.
