Caesar Rodney High built a two-goal halftime lead before holding off Smyrna, 11-10, in Henlopen Conference girls’ lacrosse on Tuesday afternoon.

The victory was the second in a row for the Riders (2-1 in conference, 3-2 overall).

Delaney Steele had three goals and an assist for CR, which outshot the Eagles, 32-23. Tara Daddio, Abigail McGowan, Eibhlin Steele all had two goals with Maegan Stewart adding a goal and two assists.

Goalie Kaitlyn Longest made 13 saves.

Alison Sayers and Maddie Price (1 assist) had three goals apiece for the Eagles (2-2, 3-2) while Kaila Hindt and Shabnam Noroozi-Pooya (1 assist) netted two goals each. Gabrielle DiRusso stopped 21 shots.

Indian River 13, Red Lion Christian 4: The Indians scored seven first-half goals of their win on Monday.

BOYS, Indian River 16, Red Lion Christian 7: The Indians outscored the Lions, 11-2, in the second half to break open a 5-5 tie.

Joshua Lucido (3 assists), William Josetti (2 assists) and Giani Gottschalk all had four goals for IR.

John Martin (2 goals, 1 assist), Wyatt Kovatch (1 goal, 1 assist) and Andrew White (1 goal) accounted for the Indians’ other goals. IR outshot Red Lion, 31-20.

Wicomico, Md. 8, Sussex Central 7: The Golden Knights dropped a one-goal decision on Monday.

Girls’ soccer

Caesar Rodney 8, Milford 0: Aleya Cummings collected five goals and an assist to pace the Riders to the victory.

Cummings tallied CR’s first three goals as the Riders took a 5-0 halftime lead. Macy Ramsey added two goals and an assist with Lynsi Gruwell contributing a goal and an assist.

The Riders held advantages of 31-1 in shots and 12-0 in corner kicks as CR (4-1) posted its fourth shutout.

Milford’s Megan Wolfe made 16 saves.

Sussex Academy 1, Sussex Central 0: Isabel Abboud’s second-half goal lifted the Seahawks.

Lake Forest 8, Polytech 1: The Spartans outscored the Panthers, 5-0, in the second half to put away the win.

Lauren Sharp collected three goals and two assists while Hannah Fox tallied two first-half goals with three assists in the second half.

Kallie Moyer, Joy Springer and Julianna Tyndall also scored goals for Lake Forest, which held a 23-7 edge in shots.

Samantha Stafford scored for the Panthers.

Smyrna 5, Delmar 2: Casey Bell netted three goals to pace the Eagles to the victory.

Jade Edwards had a goal and two assists with Nikki Pratt scoring Smyrna’s last goal. Goalie Cassidy Cook made 11 saves as the Wildcats outshot the Eagles, 17-13.

Logan Walls scored both Delmar goals with Julia Johnson making eight saves.

Indian River 6, Sussex Tech 2: Brooke Beam (2 assists) netted the Indians’ first two goals while Madison Hogsten (1 assist) had the last two in their victory.

Samantha Whalen (1 assist) and Natalie Herrera also scored goals with Fabrea McCray making five saves. IR outshot the Ravens, 21-7.

Nicolette Phillips scored a first-half goal for Sussex Tech which also picked up an own goal. Stephanie Wheatley made five saves.

Delmarva Christian 9, St. Thomas More 1: Skylar Bennett (2 assists) and Kirah Harmon (1 assist) scored four goals each to pace the Royals.

Maggie Burris also scored for Delmarva Christian (3-1) with Layne Morris making eight saves.

Emily Saint scored the Ravens’ goal while Kourtnie Orth made 18 saves. The Royals outshot St. Thomas More, 33-12.

Delmar 10, St. Thomas More 1: The Wildcats built a 6-0 halftime lead before posting the win in the contest played on Monday.

College track & field

Hornets take part in Coppin event: Delaware State’s women finished fifth while the Hornet men placed eighth at Coppin State’s Don Webster Invitational last weekend.

Leading the way for the women, Tremeceia Sample, Roselyn Oroyemi, Fanta Ba and Raquel Hughes finished second (49.62) in the 400-meter relay. Faleesha Dowe also turned in her best performance of the outdoor season with a second-place finish (58.19) in the 400-meter dash.

Also for DSU, Deja Johnson finished third (1:06.73) in the 400-meter hurdles while Omella Gordon placed third (2:22.00) and Rayana Releford finished fourth (2:23.61) in the 800-meter run.

For the men, the 1,600-meter relay team of Kiyair Lambert, Jonathan Jones, Emanuel Hitch and Andrew Chambers took first, crossing the line at 3:25.45. Also, Jones won the 400-meter dash with a personal-best time of 49.48 while Lambert finished third (15.24) in the 110-meter hurdles.

College lacrosse

UD to host NCAA quarterfinals in ‘17: For the second time in four years, Delaware Stadium will serve as host to the NCAA Division I Men’s Lacrosse Tournament quarterfinals.

The NCAA announced Tuesday that Delaware’s 22,000-seat lacrosse and football venue will serve as the host site for the quarterfinals in May, 2017. Delaware hosted the NCAA men’s quarterfinals in 2014 and also hosted the NCAA Division I championship game in 1984, the first NCAA Final Four in 1986, and NCAA first-round games in 2002.
