Country star Trace Adkins joins Delaware State Fair music lineup

HARRINGTON — Deep-voiced country singer Trace Adkins will headline one of the final two concerts for the 2022 Delaware State Fair, the venue announced Tuesday.

Mr. Adkins will join the Delaware Lottery Summer Concert Series on July 25 at 7:30 p.m. at the M&T Bank Grandstand, following Canadian country outfit the James Barker Band.

Fair officials also announced that Dominican bachata singer Frank Reyes will be performing with Frankie Ruiz, the son of legendary salsa artist Frankie Ruiz Sr., on July 29 at 7:30 p.m. at the grandstand.

Country crooner Mr. Adkins has sold more than 11 million albums, charted more than 20 hit singles and garnered more than 2 billion streams during his 25-year career.

A Grand Ole Opry member for nearly two decades, the Louisiana native is known for his dynamic baritone and fiery, always memorable live performances. He also has expanded his singing career to include film and TV acting.

He broke out in 1996 with the debut album, “Dreamin’ Out Loud,” cracking the Top 5 of Billboard’s Hot Country Songs with “Every Light In the House is On” and following with the No. 1 hit, “This Ain’t (No Thinkin’ Thing).”

He also has had fun tunes, like “Honky Tonk Badonkadonk” and “Hillbilly Bone,” which he sang with Blake Shelton.

The James Barker Band started its recording career with seven consecutive Top 10 hits, six of them certified either Gold or Platinum.

Before scoring a record deal, the band won the 2015 Emerging Artist Showcase at Boots and Hearts, Canada’s largest country music festival.

The band’s “Lawn Chair Lazy” in 2016 hit No. 3 on the Canadian Country Airplay chart, setting its record for the highest-charting debut single.

“Chills,” the band’s breakthrough single, won two 2018 Canadian Country Music Association awards: Single of the Year and Top Selling Canadian Single of the Year.

The Platinum-selling crossover hit, “Keep It Simple,” from the band’s 2019 sophomore release, “Singles Only,” was its first to make the Top 40 radio and Canadian pop charts.

Tickets for the Adkins-James Barker Band show are $30-$65, along with a service fee. They will go on sale Friday at noon here.

Meanwhile, Mr. Reyes was discovered by a talent scout while working at a grocery store, and he began recording his 1991 debut, “Tu Seras Mi Reina,” only a week later.

He earned the title, “Prince of Bachata,” in 2002, when his breakthrough single, “Nada de Nada,” made the Top 10 of Billboard’s Tropical Airplay chart.

The ultra-romantic title track from his 2014 album, “Noche de Pasión,” was a U.S. Latin radio hit and spent five months on the Dominican charts.

Mr. Reyes, a two-time Latin Grammy nominee, was twice honored as Bachatero of the Year by Premios Soberano, a prominent Dominican awards show.

Mr. Ruiz is on his tour, “20 Años Homenaje a Frankie Ruiz.” In commemoration of the 20 years of his father’s career, he travels with some of the best salsa musicians in the world, bringing the elder’s music to the fans.

Tickets for the Reyes-Ruiz concert are $30-$60, plus a service fee, and also go on sale Friday.

Other concerts that were previously announced by the fair and have tickets on sale include:

  • July 21 — Sam Hunt with Roman Alexander.
  • July 22 — Halestorm.
  • July 23 — Nelly.
  • July 24 — Demolition derby.
