As my children grow older, they will develop their own beliefs and decide what matters most to them. I never want them to feel that they must vote the way I do. I simply want them to understand why I choose to vote Democratic.
For me, it begins with personal freedom. I believe they should have the freedom to make important decisions about their lives, bodies, families and futures — and live in a country where those freedoms are respected.
I want them to inherit a healthy planet, which is why I support clean energy and protecting our environment. As parents, we have responsibilities to leave our children a world that is safe and sustainable.
Fairness matters, too. I believe that everyone should contribute fairly, while our communities have the resources they need for strong schools, healthcare, infrastructure and opportunity.
I believe civil rights belong to everyone. No matter someone’s race, gender, background or identity, everyone deserves dignity, equality and equal treatment under the law.
I also believe we can have secure borders, while treating immigrants with compassion and humanity.
These are the values I hope to pass on — not a political label but a belief in freedom, fairness, equality and compassion.
