Congressional delegation names service academy nominations

DOVER — Delaware’s U.S. congressional delegation recently announced their U.S. Service Academy nominations for the class of 2022.

•Among the principal nominees, Sen. Chris Coons named Alyssa Spell of Lewes, a Cape Henlopen High School student, to the United States Military Academy at West Point.

•Downstate alternative nominees named by Sen. Coons are as follows:

Alex Angell of Selbyville, Sussex Technical High School

Madison Cook of Camden, Caesar Rodney High School

Steven Ferrandino of Dover, Caesar Rodney High School

Dylan Norman of Seaford, Seaford High School

Aidan O’Connor of Wyoming, Caesar Rodney High School

Jack Windham of Dover, St. Thomas More Academy

Jacob Wandless of Magnolia, Polytech High School

For those students interested in applying to a service academy, Sen. Carper will host a free information session for students, parents and educators on Thursday, Feb. 22 from 6 to 8 p.m. at Delaware Technical Community College’s Terry Campus in Dover.

Representatives from service academies, as well as the Congressional Delegation Offices and the U.S. Air Force, will be on hand to provide information about applying and answer questions.

All students must meet all medical, physical and academic requirements in order to gain admission.
