Wesley College’s men’s lacrosse team closed out its season with a 21-8 Capital Athletic Conference victory over Southern Virginia on Saturday afternoon at Miller Stadium.

Jack Redefer tallied a game-high seven points on three goals with four assists while Sam Seibert had a game-high five goals to go with an assist for the Wolverines (1-7 CAC, 6-8 overall). John Chenault added five points on four goals and an assist while James Moss scored four times in his final collegiate game.

Hunter Oleszczuk also notched a hat trick while Devin Hyatt matched his three points with a goal and two assists.

Jack O’Neill dominated at the ‘X,’ winning 23-of-28 faceoffs and had a career-high 17 ground balls. Eric Bohns was second to him with five ground balls to go with a team-high four caused turnovers.

Sam Kennedy stopped nine shots in 54 minutes.

Fairfield 12, Delaware 11: For the second straight week, the Blue Hens used a spirited fourth quarter comeback to send a game into overtime.

But Delaware came up short in the extra session, falling in double overtime.

Delaware (4-10, 0-4 CAA), which lost its fifth straight game, outscored Fairfield 5-0 in the fourth quarter and sent the game into overtime on a goal by senior attackman Beau Jones with 5:55 left in regulation. After neither team scored in the first extra session, Fairfield finally broke the stalemate on a sudden-death goal by Tristan Sperry just one minute into the second OT.

Jones finished with a goal and a career-high tying five assists. Senior goalkeeper Brett Anton recorded 16 saves, giving him 31 over the last two outings.

WOMEN, Wesley 10, Southern Virginia 4: The Wolverines (1-7 CAC, 6-10) wrapped up the season with a Capital Athletic Conference win.

Kaitlin Brennan and Jessica Giaccone both scored twice while Francesca Benitez also recorded two points on a goal and an assist. Brennan also had a team-high three draw controls while Benitez’ four ground balls led the team.

Goalie Savannah Clough was credited with 14 saves.

Baseball

Charleston 8, Delaware 3: No. 22 Charleston (27-8, 13-1 CAA) took a 5-0 lead in the third inning before topping the Blue Hens in a Colonial Athletic Association game.

Zach Lopes and Norm Donkin each tallied a pair of hits in the loss, while Ty Warrington, Nick Liggett, and Brock Niggebrugge supplied the other three hits for Delaware (3-8, 14-14).

UMES sweeps Hornets: Delaware State continued its struggles against UMES this season, falling to the Hawks 11-3 and 6-5 in a MEAC North doubleheader. The Hornets (7-10 MEAC, 8-24 overall) have dropped all five meetings with UMES this season.

Jaylen Zielecki smacked a solo homer and Ron Farley drove in two runs for the Hornets in the opener.

In the nightcap, UMES scored two runs in the bottom of the seventh to win the seven-inning contest. The Hornets scored three runs in the sixth to take a 5-4 lead.

Cameron Onderko, David Kimbrough and Chris Gonzalez had two hits each for the Hornets in the nightcap.

Softball

Hornets post sweep: Delaware State stretched its winning streak to six games in a row with a 11-2, 14-9 sweep of Norfolk State in a MEAC twinbill.

In the opener, DelState (7-4 MEAC, 13-21 overall) put together a five-run fifth, headlined by infielder Chloe Oro’s two-run double. The Hornets finished with 11 hits, led by Oro (3), Danielle Velez and infielder Jordan Stamps (2).

In the second game, DSU tallied 19 hits with four players recording at least three, led by Vanessa Washington’s 4-for-5 effort with four RBI, two runs and a double.

JMU sweeps Delaware: The No. 23 ranked Dukes pounded out 25 runs on 30 hits as the Dukes swept a Colonial Athletic Association doubleheader, 13-0, 12-3, from the Blue Hens.

The Dukes (13-0 CAA, 36-6) have now won 27 consecutive games. Delaware is 5-8, 23-17.

In the nightcap, UD freshman Mariah Kondravy blasted a three-run homer over the fence in leftcenter. Kondravy now has 10 home runs this season, second most in a UD single season and tied for the CAA lead.
