NEWARK — The Delaware women’s basketball game vs. VCU originally scheduled for Wednesday has been canceled due to COVID-19 issues within the Rams program.

It is unlikely that a game will be scheduled in its place.

Fans have several options regarding payments that have already been made for this game, including transferring tickets to a future game, donating to Delaware Athletics, receiving a full refund or a combination of the other three selections.

The Blue Hens (6-4), who have lost three games in a row, are scheduled to return to the court on Dec. 31 at 1 p.m. when they host James Madison in their Colonial Athletic Association opener.

UD’s Grant gets preseason honor: Delaware’s Owen Grant was named to the USA Lacrosse Magazine Preseason All-America third team.

Grant, the reigning Colonial Athletic Association Defensive Player of the Year, helped guide the Blue Hens to the CAA regular-season title with a 7-1 mark in conference play in 2021. His 2.36 caused turnovers per game ranked third nationally for a Delaware squad that led the CAA in scoring defense at 10.08 goals per game.

Grant had a team-best 26 caused turnovers, tying the single-season program record. He ranked third on the squad with 42 ground balls while also scoring three goals and dishing out an assist during his junior campaign. Grant is the only CAA player named to the preseason list.

The Blue Hens open the season on Feb. 5 at home vs. NJIT.
