Chance DiFebbo’s single scored Joseph Carpenter in the bottom of the ninth inning to give Delaware a walkoff 5-4 victory over West Chester in baseball on Sunday afternoon.

It was the seventh game decided by three runs or less for the Blue Hens (4-14).

Carpenter went 3-for-4 with two runs scored and an RBI. He was one of seven Blue Hens to notch a hit in the contest.

In the ninth, Carpenter ignited a rally with a leadoff triple to deep right center. Two walks loaded the bases and two pitches into DiFebbo’s at-bat, he launched a single over a drawn-in outfield to plate the game-winner.

In his third college start, freshman Joey Silan scattered three hits and allowed just one earned run, while striking out five in six innings. Classmate Justin Tomovich picked up the win with two hitless innings, including four strikeouts.

Norfolk State 9, Delaware State 0: Jonathan Mahoney pitched a six-hit shutout as the Spartans completed a three-game MEAC-North sweep.

The Hornets (0-3 MEAC North, 5-11 overall), who dropped their fourth straight, got three singles from catcher Adrian Hill (Polytech).

The Wolverines were outhit 5-4 in the loss with William Musser, Kyle Schneider and DaQuan Jefferson all picking up an RBI. Reliever Korey Hendricks gave up only one hit, one walk and one run while striking out four in 3.2 innings.

Piening struck out seven batters and was mobbed in the circle after getting Melanie Aguilera to foul out to end the game.

Brooke Glanden (Lake Forest) had a triple, an RBI and scored twice in the nightcap.
