COACHES: Delaware — Ryan Carty (5-0, 1st season); William & Mary — Mike London (16-15, 4th season at William & Mary; 78-75, 14th season overall).

CAA: Delaware — 3-0; William & Mary — 1-1.

NATIONAL RANKING: Delaware is No. 6, William & Mary is No. 16 in STATS FCS poll.

LAST WEEK: Delaware beat Towson, 24-10; William & Mary beat Stony Brook, 27-10.

SERIES: Delaware leads, 25-18.

LAST MEETING: Delaware beat William & Mary, 24-3, last year.

QUOTE OF THE WEEK: Ryan Carty on the Hens not converting on some good scoring chances last week: “If we want to continue to be great, we’ve got to keep getting better. It’s not going to work for 11 straight games in the regular season — (and) if we go where we want to go, more games than that — we can’t keep leaving things out there.”

KEYS TO THE GAME: The Blue Hens face a big CAA road test against a William & Mary squad that should have a big crowd on hand for its homecoming. Due to conference schedule changes over the last few seasons, the two programs have faced each other only once since 2017. Considering Delaware hasn’t gone to Williamsburg since 2016, none of the current Hens have played a game in Zable Stadium before. ... Like the Hens, the Tribe have been pretty good across the board so far. They’re second in the CAA in scoring defense (19.4 ppg) and third in scoring offense (34.0 ppg). But in William & Mary’s one league loss, a 35-31 setback to Elon, it gave up 447 yards to the Phoenix. ... The one thing Delaware doesn’t want to do is waste scoring chances. With Ryan Carty regularly passing up field-goal opportunities, the Hens have come up empty at times despite good drives. Those things get more costly in close games.

NOTES: Twelve Delaware players have at least two receptions this season. ... Six players have at least nine rushing attempts. ... The Hens have only eight sacks this year. ... Blaise Sparks, the 6-foot-7, 305-pound former transfer from Illinois, has emerged as the starting right tackle. ... Sophomore safety Ty Davis is the only defensive starter who’s not at least a fifth-year senior or older. ... Receiver Thyrick Pitts has caught a pass in 35 straight games. ... Delaware has nine grad students in its 22-player starting lineup. ... After Saturday, the Hens have an open date. They don’t play again until Oct. 22 when they host Morgan State for homecoming.
