Clayton man sentenced to 2 years for neighborhood burglary

DOVER — A Clayton man received two years in prison Tuesday morning following his conviction last year for burglarizing a neighbor, authorities said.

Richard McLamb learned his fate in Superior Court for first-degree burglary, third-degree unlawful sexual contact, and resisting arrest charges determined by a jury trial in December 2017.

He was 43 years old when convicted, according to the Delaware Department of Justice.

Judge Jeffrey J. Clark issued the sentence, which included two years of Level III probation and registration as a Tier I sex offender.

Deputy Attorney General Sean Motoyoshi declined comment after the 9 a.m. session. Attorney John R. Garey represented McLamb.

According to the DOJ, McLamb entered a home and sexually assaulted a neighbor sleeping on the couch alone at home. He ran from Clayton Police but was taken into custody shortly afterward, the DOJ said.

McLamb was initially charged with first-degree rape, but convicted on a lesser included offense, according to the DOJ. He faced up to 17 years in prison, officials said.

Delaware State Police Detective Ryan Wright investigated the case, assisted by DOJ social worker Lorraine Freese, paralegal Sue Balick, administrative assistant Samantha Huey and investigator Pete Fraley.
