Claudia Steele Fletcher, 78

GEORGETOWN - Claudia Steele Fletcher, of Georgetown, passed away Monday, Jan. 5, 2009, in Atlantic Shores in Millsboro. She was 78. She was born in Dover, daughter of the late Wallace and Beatrice (Adkins) Knight. She was a homemaker and enjoyed reading. Claudia never met a stranger and was always willing to help, in any way, her family, friends and neighbors. Claudia had attended Bethesda U.M. Church. She was a member of the Loyal Order of the Moose Lodge 534 in Harrington. A son, Richard Johnson, preceded her in death in 1988. She is survived by one son, Thomas L. Johnson and wife Heidi of Sumter, S.C.; one daughter, Judy Baker of Millsboro; a sister, Ethel Irvin of Ridgely, Md.; nine grandchildren; three step-grandchildren; and 15 great-grandchildren. A funeral service will be held 1 p.m., Thursday in the chapel of Short Funeral Services, 609 E. Market St., Georgetown where friends may call after noon. Burial will be in Union Cemetery, Georgetown. Flowers are accepted or contributions can be made to Delaware Hospice, 100 Patriots Way, Milford, DE 19963.
