CAMDEN-WYOMING - Clara Louie Combs of Camden-Wyoming passed away Wednesday, October 2, 2013 at home after a long illness. She was 85. Mrs. Combs was born April 30, 1928 in Akron, Ohio to Chinese immigrants, John and Ongshee Louie. Her parents sent her and her five siblings to Canton, China for schooling where she stayed from 1930 to 1939. After her schooling she moved to Easton, Maryland where her parents ran a Chinese Laundry. In 1958 she married Thomas H. Combs and traveled extensively with him while he served in the United States Navy, finally settling in Dover in 1970. Mrs. Combs worked as a civilian for Dover Air Force Base in transportation, retiring in 1988. Mrs. Combs enjoyed cooking, sewing, her morning exercise, shopping, strawberry picking and home decorating. She loved spending time with her numerous siblings and their families, but especially loved spending time with her grandchildren who gave her such joy. In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her brother, William Louie; and loving family member Frank Tenusak. She is survived by her husband of 55 years, Thomas H. Combs of Camden-Wyoming; daughters, Marlene A. Graff and Vivian Combs both of Dover; granddaughter, Jessica Moore and her husband Thomas; and two great grandchildren, Piper N. and Garrett B. Moore; siblings, Juanita Sing of Alameda, Calif., Henry Louie and his wife Gloria of Potomac, Md., Cherry Gong and her husband Edward of Elk Grove, Calif., Robert Louie and his friend, Jane of Wilmington, Del., Helen Foy and her husband David of Alameda, Calif., Mary Jane Hom of Gainsville, Va., James Louie and his wife Betty of Elk Grove, Calif., Thomas Louie and his wife Janet of Charlestown, Mass., Pauline Khu and her husband Eric of Australia; and Aunt Leong Louie of Dover; and numerous loving nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be 2 p.m., Sunday, October 6, 2013 at Torbert Funeral Chapel South, 1145 E. Lebanon Road (Rt.10), Dover. Friends may call from 12 p.m. to 2 p.m. Interment will be private.
