LINCOLN - Christopher Washington, of Lincoln, died suddenly Friday, April 18, 2008, in Baltimore. He was 45.

Chris was born in Philadelphia, the son of George Washington Jr. and Sarah "Shirley" Washington.

He was a boilermaker and a member of the International Brotherhood of Boilermakers, Local 13 of Philadelphia.

As he was growing up, Chris worked as a waterman for several years, working out of Slaughter Beach, Bowers Beach and Ocean City, Md.

Chris was a founding member of the Clam Jam Benefit Committee, which was organized as a nonprofit public charity that benefits the Make-A-Wish Foundation as well as benefits sick children.

He loved to be outdoors and enjoyed going fishing on his boat in the Delaware Bay as well as crabbing and eating seafood.

Chris enjoyed gardening, and was a real family person, kindhearted and generous. In addition to being a loving son and brother, he loved spending time with his nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by a brother, George "Buddy" Washington III, in 1987.

He is survived by his mother, Sarah "Shirley" Washington of Lincoln; his father, George Washington Jr. of South Bowers Beach; two brothers, William Washington of Milford and David Washington of Lincoln; two sisters, Shirley Morris and her husband Greg of Dover and Jennie Lynn Washington of Lincoln; three nieces, Sarah E. Smith, Katie L. (Washington) Kenton and her husband Brandon, and Hannah M. Morris; four nephews, Patrick M. Smith, Billy Washington, Tyler G. Washington and Jared G. Morris; and his beloved pets, his dog Oreo, and Buster the cat.

Friends may call from 6-8 p.m. Thursday in the Lofland Funeral Home, 102 Lakeview Ave., Milford.

Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11 a.m. Friday in St. John the Apostle Catholic Church, Seabury Avenue and School Place, Milford.

Burial will be in Milford Community Cemetery.

Instead of flowers, the family suggests contributions to the Clam Jam Benefit Committee, c/o David Washington, President, 7313 Marshall St., Lincoln, DE 19960.
