MILLVILLE - Chester Daniel "Danny" Steele of Millville died Sunday, Feb. 18, 2007, in Beebe Medical Center. He was 71.

Mr. Steele was born in Ocean View, son of the late Charles D. Steele and Elva (Hudson) Steele.

He graduated from Lord Baltimore High School.

Mr. Steele worked for Sussex Shores Water Co. and served two years in the U.S. Army. He also was a Merchant Marine until spending the better part of 25 years as a truck driver for many trucking companies in the area. Before his retirement, Mr. Steele maintained equipment for local construction companies.

After retirement he enjoyed working at a local produce stand on Del. 26 near Sussex 17 for the past several summers.

Mr. Steele was very fond of boating, playing cards, and taking his cocker spaniel, Sandy, for rides to Holt's Landing State Park.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife of 50 years, Phyllis; a sister, Betty (Steele) Hickman; and a brother, Charles Steele.

He is survived by his son, Charles Steele and his wife Carol of Ocean View, and daughter Nancy Bennett and her husband Dan of Middletown, as well as five grandchildren Jacob, Justin, Bethany, Julie and Caroline.

A funeral service will be noon Saturday in the Ocean View chapel of Melson Funeral Services, West Ave., Ocean View, where friends may call one hour earlier.
