Shockley, 88 SMYRNA - Charles Wesley Shockley of Smyrna, passed away Monday, Dec. 2, 2013 at his home surrounded by his loving family. Mr. Shockley was born Sept. 22, 1925 in Taylors Bridge, Del., the son of the late Nathaniel and Dorothy Shockley. He served his country with honors in the U.S. Army during WWII. He retired from Preston Trucking as a truck driver. During his tenure there he received his Million Mile Club Plaque, which reflected one million miles of accident free driving. Charles was a life member of the American Legion David C. Harrison Post #14 of Smyrna and a life member of the V.F.W. Post #8801, also of Smyrna. He was also a member of the Teamsters Local 326, a member of the World War II Memorial, and a member of the 65th Halbert Infantry Division. Charles enjoyed trains and spending time with his grandchildren and great grandchildren. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two sons, Roger Wesley Shockley and Douglas West Shockley; and nine siblings. He is survived by his beloved wife of 63 years, Susan; his daughter, Darlene Bennett; his sister, Roberta Embert of Sudlersville, Md.; his brother, James Shockley of Smyrna; two grandchildren, James Bennett, Jr. of Townsend, Del., and Charla Bennett of Clayton; two precious great-grandchildren, Brayden Vance of Clayton, Del. and Brynleigh Bennett of Townsend; and numerous nieces and nephews. A visitation will be held on Wednesday, Dec. 4, 2013 at 2:30 p.m. in the Faries Funeral Chapel, 29 South Main Street Smyrna, DE. Memorial services will begin at 3:30 pm. Burial will be private. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests contributions to Delaware Hospice, 911 S. DuPont Hwy., Dover, DE 19901 or to the V.F.W. Post #8801, 4941 Wheatleys Pond Road, Smyrna, DE 19977.
