Charles Meredith Duff

Duff , 78 GALENA, Md. - Charles Meredith Duff of Galena, Md. died on Friday, Oct. 11, 2013 at his home. He was 78. Mr. Duff was born on June 9, 1935 in Odessa, Del., the son of the late Fred and Mildred Hanifee Duff. He graduated from John Bassett High School in Smyrna, Del., class of 1953. After high school, he attended a business college for two years. In 1957, Mr. Duff joined the United States Army. He served in Germany for two years, until he was honorably discharged in 1959. Later, Mr. Duff worked with Clayton Police Department in Clayton, Del. for a number of years. He then worked for an ice plant in Clayton, Del. and most recently with Saulsbury Bros. as plant manager until he retired in 1992. Mr. Duff was a member of the Modern Maturity Center in Dover, Del., and the National Committee to Preserve Social Security and Medicare, writing several newspaper articles to assist with both Social Security and Medicare. He enjoyed watching sports on TV, hanging out at the Smyrna Diner, being involved in politics for over thirty years and spending time with his family and friends. Mr. Duff is survived by a daughter, Kim Yoder and husband Dave of Golts, Md.; two sons, Charles M. Duff, Jr. and wife Virginia of Mt. Hope, Alabama, and Duane Duff of Philadelphia, Pa.; ten grandchildren; and seven great grandchildren. A graveside service will be 11 a.m., Friday, Oct. 18, 2013 at the Delaware Veteran's Memorial Cemetery in Bear, Del. Arrangements by: Fellows, Helfenbein & Newnam Funeral Home, P.A. Millington, MD.
