Charles L. Smith, 70 DOVER - Charles L. Smith passed away on Dec. 4, 2009, at Bayhealth Medical Center, Kent General Hospital. He was 70. He is survived by his mother, Mary Cash of Smyrna; and stepmother, Sylvia Tapley of New Jersey. He was preceded in death by his father, Charles Ned Smith; and two sisters, Louise Cash and Viola Poole. He is also survived by his children, Veronica Pettyjohn, Kevin (Diane) Pettyjohn, Orlando Pettyjohn, and Michael Waters of Delaware, Dorisene Clark of Pennsylvania, Charlotte McCray and Charlie McCray of Delaware, Tomika Nelson of Maryland and Tina Harris of Delaware; brothers, Henry Cash of Georgia, Eric Culp of New Jersey, George Poole of Maryland, Alphonso Smith of Delaware; and sisters, Prestina Cash of Chicago, Ill., Rachel Cash of Delaware, Sylvia Gail Pleasanton of Pinewood, S.C., Lola Ross of Chicago, Beatrice Smith, Patricia Smith and Theodora Valentine of New Jersey; two stepchildren, Zionna Adamalekun and Shelley McCray of Delaware; significant other, Charlotte Church of Delaware; goddaughter, Neferititi Jones; 35 grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. Viewing will be from 6 to 8 p.m., Friday, Dec. 11, at Bennie Smith Funeral Home in Dover. Funeral Services will be 11 a.m., Saturday, Dec. 12. Repast at Crossroads Corporate Center across from Bennie Smith Funeral Home. Burial will be at Barrett's Chapel Cemetery in Frederica.
