Charles E. 'Socky' Dowling, 73
CHESTERTOWN, Md. - Charles E. "Socky" Dowling of Chestertown died Wednesday, Nov. 21, 2007, at Chester River Hospital Center, Chestertown. He was 73.
Mr. Dowling was born in Rock Hall on July 14, 1934, son of the late Samuel and Cora (Thomas) Dowling.
He was educated in Rock Hall schools and served in the U.S. Army from 1957 to 59.
Mr. Dowling married Jean Boulter on June 6, 1953. They resided in Rock Hall, where he owned and operated Charles "Socky" Dowling Painting Contracting until 1994.
He was a member of Raum Chapel United Methodist Church, and enjoyed gardening, flowers, bowling, people and children, and was devoted to his family.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by two sons, Michael K. Dowling of Millington and Joshua T. Dowling of Rock Hall; a brother, Larry J. Dowling of Rock Hall; along with six grandchildren, Margaret, Michael, Megan, Michaela, Richard and Matthew Dowling.
Funeral services will be 1 p.m. Monday at Wesley Chapel Church, Rock Hall.
Relatives and friends may call on Sunday between 2 and 4 p.m., at Fellows, Helfenbein, and Newnam Funeral Home, 130 Speer Road, Chestertown.
Interment will be in Wesley Chapel Cemetery.
