Charles Conwell 'Monk' Lofland SUDLERSVILLE, Md. - Charles Conwell "Monk" Lofland, of Sudlersville, died Thursday, Nov. 12, 2009, at his home. He was 78. Charles C. Lofland was born Oct. 12, 1931, in Clayton, Del., the son of the late Charles Earl Lofland and Maude Simpler Lofland. Mr. Lofland spent most of his life in Queen Anne's county. On Feb. 18, 1950, he married Barbara J. McGuire Lofland and the two were married for 59 years. He worked at Bennett and Cohey's for 20 years before owning and operating Lofland Sawmill. He also worked in the logging industry for several years. Mr. Lofland was a member of the Chestertown Church of the Nazarene. He enjoyed fishing, hunting, wood working, gardening and restoring old Studebakers. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by one sister, Mary Leager; and one grandson, Walt Strong III. He is survived by four daughters, Carolyn Lofland of Annapolis, Linda Strong of Ulm, Mont., Debbie Moore of Salisbury, Cindy Lofland of Chestertown; two sons, Charles "Buddy" Lofland of Sudlersville, Troy Strother of Chestertown; five sisters, seven brothers, 15 grandchildren, and 19 great-grandchildren. Services will be held at 2 p.m., Monday, Nov. 16, at Fellows, Helfenbein and Newnam Funeral Home, 370 Cypress St., Millington, where friends may call one hour prior. Interment will be held in Crumpton Cemetery in Crumpton. In lieu of flowers, contributions can be sent to the Chestertown Church of the Nazarene, 6943 Church Hill Rd., Chestertown, MD 21620.
