SMYRNA - Charles B. Durand, Sr., peacefully passed away at the home of his daughter, Charmaine Pardee of Harrington, on Feb. 12, 2014. He was born in 1924 in Wilmington to the late Charles A. Durand and Margaret Widenburg. He served proudly in the US Navy, WWII Pacific Theater, and the Coast Guard. He was a 32nd degree Mason, member of the Shriners, Police Rod and Gun Club, Moose, retired local IBEW #126, retired Amtrak Railroad and American Legion Post 14, Smyrna. Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife of 56 years, Martha M. Durand; his grandson, John R. Pardee; and his sister, Dorothy Beck. He is survived by his five children, daughters, Georgianna White and husband Bill, New Castle, Charmaine Pardee and husband, Tom, Harrington, Linda Cebenka and husband Andy, Middletown, sons, Charles B. Durand, Jr. and wife Kathy, Smyrna, Melvin Durand and wife Linda, Smyrna, 13 grandchildren, Billy, Tammy and Tina White, Tom and Jeff Pardee, Stanley, Laura and Robert Oldham, Charlie and Jennifer (Durand), Melvin and Sherry (Durand) and Joe Handley; 25 great-grandchildren, Samantha, Billy, Katrina, Kenny, Anthony, Tanner, Chase, Heather, Corey, Jeffrey, Taylor, Grace, Ryan, Daymeon, Lauren, Charlie, Christopher, Stephanie, Fenner, Kaylee, Dalton, Bobby, Dylan, Marisa and Izabelle; 2 sisters, Doris Strohmaier, Rising Sun, Md. and Elaine Okenderski, Wilmington. A Funeral Service will be held Wednesday, Feb. 19, 2014 at 1 p.m. at the Gebhart Funeral Home, 531 Delaware Street, New Castle, DE, where friends may visit with the family from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Burial will be in Gracelawn Memorial Park, New Castle, DE. 302-328-2312.
