Celebrate school pride at I Love Lake Forest Day

School pride couldn’t be easier to find than at a day of free activities for all ages.

The 10th annual I Love Lake Forest Day is scheduled for Saturday, Oct. 20 at Lake Forest High School in Felton from 10 a.m. until 2 p.m.

“I Love Lake Forest Day is a free community event that the Lake Forest School District coordinates with the community every year,” coordinator Jessica Piccolo said. “The district offers this event free to the public to promote the district by showcasing the talents of our students in a day filled with fun.”

The event will feature band and chorus groups from schools around the district with the Lake Forest High School band kicking off the event at 10 a.m. Curriculum displays will show off what students are learning.

Special events throughout the day will also include flu shots from Rite Aid from 10 a.m. until noon and a demonstration from Agape Martial Arts.

“There will be bounce houses, Jungle John with his Halloween Safety Show and balloon animals, Delaware State Police with a K-9 Demonstration and their Clydesdale horses, FFA will offer hayrides and a Petting Zoo, FFA Alumni will have a cow plop, Corn Hole tournament, and pumpkin carving and painting,” she added.

A touch-a-truck will feature fire trucks, other emergency vehicles, a snow plow from DelDOT, the Kent County Emergency Management Mobile Response, a bucket truck from Delaware Electric Coop, an oil and dump truck from Kings Tire, the Delaware State Police Mobile Command Unit, motorcycles from Bikers for Christ, tractors, farm equipment and more. Helicopters from the Delaware State Police and Christiana Care will land on the front lawn of the high school for attendees to explore.

Although the event is free, vendors and food trucks will have items for sale, as well.

A long list of vendors plan to attend the event, like Chick-Fil-A, FFA alumni with a chicken barbecue, Felton Ice Cream, All Star Embroidery with spirit wear, Delaware State Fire School and many other vendors. SlimStreet Sounds DJing will provide music.

Participants should pick up a free I Love Lake Forest Day bag when they arrive to the event and a Spartan passport. The passport can be signed off by various vendors and turned back in at the information booth for a chance to win one of three prizes.

“Lake Forest School District is truly part of a family community. We pride ourselves with the partnerships we have made with local businesses within our community. We are grateful for all the support we get from our staff, students and families. The stakeholders of this District go above and beyond the call of duty to show care and concern for those in need,” Ms. Piccolo said.
