CENTREVILLE, Md. - Carole Susan Palen of Centreville, Md. died on Tuesday, Oct. 29, 2013 at the Queen Anne's Hospice Center. She was 68. Born in Baltimore, Md., on December 7, 1944, she was the daughter of the late, William G. Palen and Caroline M. Wagner Palen. Susan was a 1963 graduate of Severna Park High School. Following graduation she began working for the State Comptroller's office as secretary to Louis Goldstein. In 1975 she moved to Centreville and began working for the Maryland State Police as an administrative aide, a position she held until retiring in 2006. She had many interests, which included, horseback riding, gardening, going to Rehoboth Beach and she had a great interest in horses and cats. She also was a member of the 1st State Corvette Club of Delaware. She was a big NASCAR fan and enjoyed the races in Dover. Susan is survived by her son, Richard A. Palen of Centreville, Md.; and her companion, Steve Millman of Harrington, Del.; and her precious Persian cat, "Bellarina". Memorial services will be 3 p.m., Sunday, Nov. 3, 2013 at the Fellows, Helfenbein & Newnam Funeral Home, Centreville, Md. where friends and family may call from 2 p.m. to 3 p.m. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Hospice of Queen Anne's Inc., 255 Comet Drive, Centreville, MD 21617.
