SMYRNA - Carole K. Deakyne, 73, of Smyrna, died at home with her husband and daughter's family. She was born in Milford to the late William Dean and Mary (Fenton) Kimmel, and was a graduate of Milford High School and James Madison University. She was an elementary education teacher before starting their family and becoming a homemaker, a role she found joy in daily. Being a wife, mother, and grandmother was her life's work and her living legacy. She was an athlete who enjoyed field hockey and basketball in her high school years. Later, she enjoyed tennis and skiing as an adult. She was also an avid fan of sports including her University of Delaware Blue Hens, Eagles and Phillies. Carole enjoyed card games and has been involved with her ladies Bridge group for many years. She is survived by her loving husband of 50 years, Dr. David R. Deakyne Sr.; daughter, Danielle and husband Brian Uffelman; her grandchildren, Bella Renee Uffelman and Blakely David Uffelman of Pittsburgh; a son, Dr. David R. Deakyne Jr., and wife Stacy and their sons David R. Deakyne III (Trey) and Zachery G. Deakyne of Smyrna; her sister, Ruth and husband James Renuart of North Carolina; a sister-in-law, Doris Kimmel of Milford; 12 nieces and nephews; and their devoted dog Cooper. A Celebration of her Life will take place 11 a.m., Tuesday, Nov. 19, 2013 at Maple Dale Country Club, 180 Maple Dale Circle, Dover, DE 19904 (302-674-4951).
