Third-seeded Cape Henlopen High posted a 3-1 victory over No. 14 Mount Pleasant in the opening round of the DIAA boys’ volleyball state tournament on Wednesday evening.
The Vikings advanced to Saturday’s state quarterfinals with a 20-25, 25-22, 25-12, 25-19 win. Defending state champion Cape Henlopen (13-2) hosts No. 1 Brandywine on Saturday at 2 p.m.
Cape Henlopen was paced by Bryce Patterson (15 kills, 1 ace, 1 block, 6 digs), Tias Small (15 kills, 2 blocks, 5 digs) and Talan Stephens (2 kills, 2 aces, 12 digs, 45 assists).
Indian River 3, Conrad 0: The No. 7 Indians (9-6) earned a spot in Saturday’s quarterfinals where they will play a 2 p.m. match at No. 2 Wilmington Charter (14-1).

Sussex Academy 25, Odessa 5: Shelby Manlove netted seven goals and a pair of assists as the fourth-seeded Seahawks won a first-round game in the DIAA state tournament on Wednesday.
Sussex Academy will play at fourth-seeded Ursuline at noon on Saturday in the quarterfinals. Also pacing the Seahawks were Shea Danahy (5 goals, 2 assists), Elizabeth Layton (4 goals, 3 assists) and Emily Bisaha (4 goals, 1 assist).
