DOVER — Bradley Lukens, 24, of Camden-Wyoming, was arrested on drug and weapon charges following a traffic stop Monday, Delaware State Police said.

Senior Cpl. Jason Hatchell said that, at approximately 2:13 p.m., a trooper on patrol observed a gray Mercedes E350 commit multiple traffic violations, while traveling north on U.S. 13 in the area of South Governors Avenue.

As the trooper pulled behind the Mercedes, police said, it accelerated and began traveling at a high rate of speed. A traffic stop was initiated, and contact was made with the driver, Mr. Lukens, who was the sole occupant.

Upon contact, the trooper smelled an odor of marijuana from the vehicle, police said. A search was conducted, and the trooper discovered a loaded Glock 9 mm handgun, a second loaded magazine with nine rounds and approximately 3.42 grams of marijuana.

Mr. Lukens was charged with carrying a concealed deadly weapon, possession of a deadly weapon by a person prohibited, possession of marijuana (civil), failure to have insurance identification in possession, improper lane change, failure to signal properly and failure to remain within a single lane.

Following arraignment by Justice of the Peace Court 2, Mr. Lukens was released on an $8,750 unsecured bond.
