Camden-Wyoming edged Naamans 4-3 Sunday night to reach the state finals in Junior League baseball.
The District I champions will take on Lower Sussex today at Dover Little League at 7 p.m. needing a win to force a second game for the state championship Tuesday night.
Lower Sussex topped Camden-Wyoming 14-11 on Friday night. The state champion earns a berth in the Eastern Regional, which starts on Aug. 5 in Freehold, New Jersey.
In Sunday’s win, pitcher Ben Dawson struck out five and allowed only one run in four-plus innings while Nathan Jopp finished the contest and struck out two.
Smyrna loses opener: Smyrna-Clayton fell to the host squad 13-1 in the first game of the Eastern Regional in Commack & Dix Hills, New York on Saturday.
The Delaware state champions were slated to face Pennsylvania on Sunday.
Stahl Post-30 2, Fox Post-2 0: Alex Hinton threw a nine-inning five-hitter to blank Fox Post 2 on the second day of the state tournament on Sunday.
Fox Post, now 1-1 in the tournament, plays R.C. DuPont today at 12:30 p.m. at New Castle’s Wilson Field.
Pitchers Joey Haass (six innings) and Kendall Small (two innings) combined to throw a two-hitter for Fox Post. But Stahl Post scored a run in the bottom of the first and another in the sixth.
R.C. DuPont Post-18 15, Post 3 Milford 5: R.C. DuPont led only 8-5 before scoring seven runs in the seventh to close out the victory.
Bryan Widdowson, Michael Robertson and Michael Melvin all had two hits for Milford with Ethan Hurd adding a hit and two RBI.
9-10 tournament
Laurel 14, Canal 2: Laurel reached the state finals with the win Sunday evening.
The District III champions will face Camden-Wyoming today at Dover at 7 p.m. Laurel needs a victory to force a second game for the title on Tuesday.
The state champion earns a berth in the East Regional in Fleetsville, Pennsylvania.
Camden-Wyoming splits two: Camden-Wyoming is 1-2 in the Eastern Regional after splitting a pair of games in the Eastern Regional in West Haven, Conn. on Saturday.
The Delaware state champions conclude pool play today with a 9 a.m. game against New Jersey (3-0).
Camden-Wyoming falls to Pa.: Camden-Wyoming fell to 0-3 in the Eastern Regional after losing to Pennsylvania, 14-6, on Sunday.
The Delaware state champions also fell to 5-3 to New York and 6-5 to New Jersey in the tournament being played in Worcester, Mass.
Camden-Wyoming finishes up pool play on Tuesday with an 11:30 a.m. contest against Maryland.
Canal improves to 2-0: Delaware state champion Canal is now 2-0 in the Eastern Regional after posting a 10-0 victory over Massachusetts on Sunday.
Canal, which faces Pennsylvania today at 4 p.m. in Bristol, Conn., scored eight runs in the second inning against Massachusetts. Angelina Edwards pitched a one-hitter with eight strikeouts and only one walk.
