SMYRNA - Calvin C. May passed away on Friday, Sept. 28, 2012, surrounded by his loving family at his home. Mr. May was born June 17, 1919, in Smyrna son of the late Lula Williams, lovingly raised by the late Walter and Mary May. He attended school in Smyrna and later joined the U.S. Army and served during World War II. He was united in holy matrimony on Jan. 29, 1955, to Wilhelmina May which from this union Rubeon and Linda were born. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Wilhelmina May; seven sisters,Gladys Huling, Dorothy Calhoun, Roberta Ridgeway, Louise Taylor, Ida Pierce, Rebecca Doughty, and Lillian Dixon; and three brothers, Harvey and Charles Williams, and Richard Pitts. He leaves to cherish for memories, son, Rubeon C. May (Dorothy); daughter, Linda M. Needam (George); a sister, Grace Henry; a brother, Paul Williams; an uncle, Edward Williams; seven grandchildren, fourteen great-grandchildren, and one great great-granddaughter; a brother-in-law; sisters-in-law; and a host of cousins, nieces, nephews, and friends. A funeral service will be held 11 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 6, 2012, at Bethel A.M.E. Church, 235 E. Commerce Street, Smyrna, with visitation two hours prior. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Delaware Hospice Inc., 911 S. DuPont Highway, Dover, DE 19901. Letters of condolence may be sent to www.benniesmithfuneralhome.com.
