Caesar Rodney High overcame a 12-point fourth-quarter deficit before edging Seaford 64-60 in overtime in boys’ basketball on Saturday afternoon.
The Riders (5-4) outscored the Blue Jays 23-11 in the fourth quarter to tie the score at 56-56 and then outscored Seaford 8-4 in OT.
Craig Williams tallied 18 points with Messiah Antwi and Malachi Brinkley both adding 16. Williams and Brinkley each contributed four three-pointers to CR’s total of 10.
Tyrese Fortune had a game-high 26 points for Seaford (6-4) with Careen Bolden adding 10.
Dover 67, Sussex Tech 42: Sophomore Tyrone Tolson netted 24 points as the Senators pulled away to the Henlopen North win.
The win was the eighth in a row for Dover (8-0 North, 10-1 overall), which outscored the Ravens by a 37-21 margin in the second half.
Tolson sank four three-pointers, hitting one in each quarter, while finishing with nine points in the fourth quarter. Jaheim Harrell added 11 points as eight Dover players scored in the contest.
Jeremyah Handy tallied 12 points to lead Sussex Tech with Jameel Jones scoring 10.
Delmarva Christian 57, Wilmington Charter 44: The Royals used a 14-9 run in the fourth quarter to sew up their third straight win.
Dontarius Jones scored 26 points for Delmarva Christian (7-2).
Smyrna 37, Sussex Central 35: The Eagles edged the Golden Knights in a Henlopen North contest on Friday night.
Majesti Carter tallied a game-high 12 points for the Eagles, who led 17-15 at halftime.
Girls’ basketball
Dover 62, Sussex Tech 41: The Senators built a 30-21 halftime advantage before picking up the Henlopen North win.
Janiah Baldwin-Eaton and Ashtyn Torbet tallied 16 points apiece as the two sophomores combined to sink five three-pointers. Sara Benson added 11 points for Dover.
Akira Perry (12) and Justice Smack (11) led Sussex Tech.
Caravel 70, Seaford 25: The Buccaneers outscored the Blue Jays 25-7, in the first quarter to take control early.
Delmarva Christian 35, Lake Forest 32: Kaela Mitchell’s three-pointer with 40 seconds left lifted the Royals to the win on Friday night.
Delmarva Christian (7-2) outscored the Spartans, 11-4, in the fourth quarter to rally from a four-point deficit. Ainsley Bell (15 points, four steals) and Sierra Troyer (eight points, 10 rebounds, six steals) paced the Royals.
Wrestling
Seaford 53, A.I. duPont 24: The Blue Jays registered four straight pins in one stretch to take control in the nonconference match.
Cole Willey (145 pounds), Sean Martinez (152), Zach Holmes (160), Jamari Dingle (170), David Torrez (220) and Samuary Long (285) all won by fall for Seaford.
Central second at Canal: Sussex Central finished second while Laurel placed fourth as Middletown’s Canal Classic wrapped up on Saturday.
Caravel won the 16-team tournament with 341.5 points. Central (269), St. Georges (219) and Laurel (190.5) took the next three spots.
The Golden Knights’ Malachi Stratton (106) and Evan Cordery (120) along with Laurel’s Brayden Hearn (220) won individual titles.
College basketball
MEN, North Carolina Central 73, Delaware State 49: Myles Carter netted 13 points with Dominik Fragala adding 10 for the Hornets (0-2 MEAC, 2-12 overall) in the home MEAC loss on Saturday.
The Eagles (2-0 MEAC, 7-9 overall) out-scored DSU, 40-23, in the second half to put the game out of reach. The Hornets never led in the game.
WOMEN, North Carolina Central 75, Delaware State 54: Senior Zoe Holmes collected 16 points and 15 rebounds as the Hornets (0-10 overall) opened their MEAC schedule with a home loss.
Janasia Law and Alexis Moragne chipped in with 13 and 10 points respectively for DSU, which trailed 38-21 at halftime.
