Caesar Rodney boys, girls sweep to victory at Keith S. Burgess Invitational

It was a banner day for Caesar Rodney High as the Riders captured both the boys’ and girls’ meet championships at the Keith S. Burgess Invitational on Saturday.

CR edged Dover for the boys’ title with 159 points to 126 while the Rider girls recorded 170 points and Dover came in second with 145.

The Rider boys had three individual champions and also won a pair of relays.

Dayvhantae McDonald won the 100-meter dash in 11.33, Johnathan Epstein was first in the two-mile in 10:02.34 and Joe Williams took home top honors in the shot put.

Lake Forest also won three individual events on the boys’ side. Diante Cannon captured the 200-meter dash (23.71) while Javonte Freeman finished the 110-hudles in 15.14 for the title.

Cam Lewis was also first in the shot put for the Spartans.

Dover had a pair of winners with Kyron Robert in the 400 (51.01) and Tayshaun Chisolm in the 300-meter hurdles with a time of 40.88.

Other downstate individual champions in boys’ events were Polytech’s Troy Nixon in the high jump and Milford’s Dalton Nordberg in the pole vault. Polytech also finished first in the two other relays.

The girls had two athletes win two different events.

The first was Oluwapelumi Osunkoya of Caesar Rodney who won the 400-meter dash in 1:01.08 before taking first in the triple jump.

The second was Milford’s Deja Rodriguez-Santiago who swept the distance events. She ran the mile in 5:26.16 before winning the two-mile in 12:04.01.

The Riders had three more champions for the girls’ events. Guirlande Danjoint was first in the 110-meter hurdles in 16.78, Zoe Scott won the high jump and Yeila Correa captured the long jump title.

Dover won three individual events behind Kristen Adkins with a time of 2:33.84 in the 800-meter run, Emily Synoski’s pole vault title and Q’Nijah Hudson winning the discus.

Lake Forest took home a pair of individual titles.

Yasmine Rowley was the 200-meter dash champion in 26.9 and Jada Gourdine won the 300-meter hurdles with a time of 50.86.

The two other winners from the Henlopen Conference in their events were Talasia Brickhouse of Polytech. Brickhouse won the 100-meter dash in 13.14.

Cape Henlopen’s Ceyra Middleton rounded out the downstate winners with her shot put title.
