DOVER - Bradley Shores, 33, of Dover was arrested for allegedly burglarizing a residence Wednesday afternoon, Delaware State Police spokesman Senior Cpl. Leonard DeMalto said.
Authorities said that at approximately 12:14 p.m., troopers responded to the 100 block of President Drive for a report of a residential burglary.
Troopers learned that the homeowner had been renovating the residence for some time, and when he returned to the property he saw that the lock to the back door had been damaged, police said.
When the homeowner went through the back door, police said Mr. Shores ran out the front door of the home and went into a different house a short distance away. Troopers were able to locate Mr. Shores and take him into custody without incident, Cpl. DeMalto said.
Mr. Shores was in possession of a large and concealed fixed blade knife at the time of his arrest, police said.
Charges against Mr. Shores included second-degree burglary, carrying a concealed deadly weapon, attempted theft under $1,500 and criminal mischief. He was arraigned by Justice of the Peace Court 2 and was released on $7,500 unsecured bond.
Mr. Shores was later committed to Sussex Correctional Institution on a Violation of Probation warrant issued by Probation & Parole, police said.
