MILFORD — In his home invitational, Bart Dalious earned all the hardware possible.
Dalious, a Milford High senior, won his 145-pound weight class and took home the Outstanding Wrestler award at the Milford Invitational on Saturday. The Buccaneers also won the team title, edging Sussex Central High who finished second.
Dalious needed a late takedown in a competitive match for the decisive two points. He started the move with 10 seconds left and was able to get into position to earn two points which broke a 3-3 tie.
“I was looking for an opening on his legs and eventually I found one,” Dalious said. “I took him into a scramble and eventually I came out on top.”
“This is a great tournament every year,” Dalious added. “This has the best competition you can find in Delaware.”
Robbie Rosser (106), Alex Creasey (126) and Dom Hovington (220) were also individual champions from Milford.
Dover’s Tim Horvath won the 152-pound bracket in a similar fashion as Dalious. Horvath pulled out a victory via decision thanks to late points in the third round.
“This is a pretty hard meet,” Horvath said. “To get first makes me feel like a real champion.”
“I was just thinking don’t get tired and keep wrestling no matter what,” he said of his match. “I just kept telling myself that. There were times where I thought it was getting hard and I might be getting tired but I just kept pushing myself.”
Horvath was the lone individual winner from Dover. The Senators finished in fifth place.
Caesar Rodney had a pair of champions Cameron Hayes (113) and Mike Clavier (195) won their weight classes. Clavier was in the lead from the beginning of his match, picking up a quick two points and eventually won with a decision.
“Whenever I’m wrestling I always try to control the match as much as I can,” Clavier said. “I try to wrestle my match as much as possible and not let the other guy throw me off.”
CR wound up fourth in the team standings.
“Our team is coming along,” Clavier said. “We just keep getting better every tournament, every practice. The guys have been working hard and I’m excited to see what we do this year.”
Sussex Central had two individual winners. Lucas Hudson won the 170-pound bracket while Victor Cruz won the final division of the day with a victory in the heavyweight division.
Colin Bergh of Sussex Tech was the other champion from the Henlopen Conference. He won the 182-pound weight class.
Other winners from Delaware included Nicholas Chilson of Sanford (132), Andrew Brooks of Sanford (138) and Danny Blaasch of Appoquinimink (160).
