Bridgeville multi-vehicle collision brings serious injuries

Posted

BRIDGEVILLE - Two persons were seriously injured during a multi-vehicle collision in the area of Seashore Highway and Sussex Highway on Sunday morning.

Delaware State Police spokeswoman Master Cpl. Heather Pepper said the driver of a 2012 Ford Escape failed to stop for a red light and entered into an intersection directly into the path of a fully marked Laurel Police Department 2017 Ford Explorer K9 vehicle. The 2012 Ford Escape, driven by a 27-year-old Berlin, Maryland man, struck the right front of the police car, which was forced into a 2006 Ford Escape driven by a 66-year-old Millsboro woman. The 2006 Ford Escape then overturned onto its roof, police said.

All drivers were wearing seat belts, police said.

Both Ford Escape drivers were transported to an area hospital by ambulance and admitted with serious injuries.

The police officer in the Ford Explorer was transported via ambulance to an area hospital with minor injuries and discharged. The officer’s K9 partner was not injured. The officer was en route to Laurel’s town limits after assisting DSP on a call for service, Sgt. Pepper said.

The collision remains under investigation by the DSP Troop 7 Collision Reconstruction Unit. Anyone with information can contact Cpl/1 Ryan Albert by calling 644-5020. Information may also be provided by calling Delaware Crime Stoppers at 1-800-TIP-3333 or online.
